About the ITIL Qualification Scheme

In an era fueled by technological advancement yet plagued by economic uncertainty, ITIL qualification is one of the best career opportunities available today. Available in an exclusive low-cost, self-paced online course, the ITIL qualification scheme is comprised of several different levels, each one focusing on an individual aspect of the ITIL practice. At every level, each course comes with a syllabus that is strictly adhered to in all materials. To advance to the next level requires satisfactory completion of the qualification exam at the previous level. For candidates interested in obtaining Master certification, a credit system is in place. Candidates earn a specific number of credits per level; when those credits are obtained, students may advance to the next level. Expert certification, which leads to Master qualification, requires 22 credits.

The foundation level qualification course has ten lessons, covering aspects from service management practices, strategies, design and transitions to technology and architecture. Although there are no prerequisites for eligibility, at least a year of prior IT experience may prove beneficial. As little as 18 hours of study time is necessary to master all of the materials, while the final multiple choice exam lasts only 60 minutes and is available in four different languages. Successful completion of the exam, which requires a minimum of 26 correct answers out of 40, earns two credits.

After successfully obtaining foundation level certification, the intermediate level commences. Here, candidates can choose from five different courses worth three credits each: Service Strategy, Service Design, Service Transition, Service Operation and Continual Service Improvement. Each of these is sufficiently unique to serve as an individual qualification, but all of them together are necessary for a greater understanding of IT practices, services and technology as well as business and marketing aspects. They are available individually or as part of a six course package that includes the next level. A total of 17 credits are required to advance to the final step before the Expert certification: the Managing Across the Lifecycle course.

The Managing Across the Lifecycle course is delivered online through a dedicated learning portal. Each candidate is granted 100 consecutive days of access to the portal, which contains video tutorials, downloadable study guides, practice quizzes and an extensive network of supporting technical and educational resources. Successful completion of this level requires at least 30 hours of study time, a prior certification level and a minimum of 17 credits from past levels. Candidates can take the final exam on the internet from home or the office, while a remote webcam proctor monitors the exam to ensure that all candidates are following the rules and guidelines. The exam is 90 to 120 minutes long and includes eight complex multiple choice questions. A passing grade requires a score of 28 out of a possible 40 marks. Successful candidates receive Expert certification.

IT specialization is a challenging field and those within it are in high demand. The IT qualification scheme allows candidates to move one step ahead of the competition and gain the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly competitive and technologically driven world.
